WHY YOU SHOULDN’T SLEEP ON ECLIPSE THE SKIES BY MAURA MILAN || BLOG TOUR

Hullo, bookdragons!

GUESS WHO HAS READ JUST ONE BOOK THIS MONTHHHH (hint: the name starts with an “r” and rhymes with “me”)

It’s definitely breaking my heart (more than words can say) that I don’t have time to read and blog lately. College is a huge pain and ya dragon needs to give her 110% to get good grades. I hardly have free time and when I do get some time off, I spend it to study or sleep. Apparently those two are mutually exclusive now. I WANT TO READ SO BAD BUT I ALSO NEED TO STUDY WHERE CAN I FIND ADDITIONAL TIME PLS HELP.

Let’s get to the waterworks some other time. Now, let’s talk about THAT ONE BOOK I read in August. I may not have read lots of books this month but I am proud that I read one book that’s really close to my heart. I read Ignite the Stars last month and it became one of my most favorite sci-fi books of all time. I am so happy that I am part of this blog tour to promote the sequel and the series conclusion to my beloved Ignite the Stars.  Kudos to Eclipse the Skies for destroying me so thoroughly. Why are y’all still sleeping on this series? THE INJUSTICE.

Thank you to Shealea @shutupshealea and Caffeine Book Tours for including me in this tour! Check out the blog tour schedule below to read more Eclipse the Skies content.

Eclipse the Skies by Maura Milan

Publication date: September 3, 2019

Ia Cōcha never thought she’d be working for the Olympus Commonwealth. But that was before she found out her trusted brother Einn was trying to tear apart the universe. Now, Ia, the Blood Wolf of the Skies, has agreed to help the Royal Star Force on one condition: when she finds him, she gets to kill Einn herself.

Brinn Tarver has just come to terms with her Tawny identity when the public lashes out against her people, crushing her family. At her breaking point, she starts to question everything she believes in—including Ia.

After the death of his mentor, Knives Adams is doing his best to live up to a role he didn’t ask for as Aphelion’s new headmaster. Still, with each new step deeper into war, he feels torn between his duties and the pull of Ia’s radical—sometimes criminal—ideas.

As they fight to keep darkness from eclipsing the skies, their unpredictable choices launch this breathtaking sequel to explosive new heights.

Note: All the quotes used in this post are from an uncorrected proof and are still subject to change.

HERE ARE FIVE REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD NOT SLEEP ON ECLIPSE THE SKIES:

• You get attached to the characters real quick

If you read my review for Ignite the Stars, you’re probably aware that I’m a trash for Maura Milan’s characters. I’ve only been with them for two books but I’m attached to them now like a koala to a tree. Ia, Brinn and Knives are my children and even though they make quite the bad decisions™, I still couldn’t help but root for them. There are also new characters in this book who made the story more colorful. I think y’all would be very excited to meet them. I squealed a lot of times I must admit. I love me some good new character reveals.

Also, can we just take a moment to appreciate this quote?

“She smiled at him, and somewhere in the universe, the sun was shining. It was moments like this that he thought there was another reason why she stayed.”

• ‎It won’t fail to take you by surprise

“Hope comes in the form of steaming hot ramen, and you just had some, son. Make sure you come back for more.”

That quote doesn’t really have anything to do with surprises. I just want to drop it on the middle of this post because it’s a personal favorite and of course, I’m always here to support quality food content.

Anywaaaay, what I love most about this series is that it is mostly unpredictable. There are moments where I just go, “HOLY DEUS WHAT DID I JUST READ” or “OKAY MAURA JUST STAB ME IN THE BACK IT WILL PROBABLY HURT LESS”.

I always have this tendency to jump into conclusions when I read books and most of the time I get the conclusions right. With this series, however, my clairvoyant skills just go haywire. Maura Milan always finds a way to make her narrative unique and I applaud her for that.

• ‎In this house we stan character growth

“It was when you were most vulnerable that you grew the most. She knew that now.”

I didn’t quite like all the character arcs in this book but I do appreciate how their growth was shown in the span of two books. I especially loved Ia’s arc in Eclipse the Skies because she has become more mature in making decisions. READ THIS BOOK TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO THE OTHER CHARACTERS. It’s better if you find out how they developed into puffballs of snark by yourself.

• ‎This series is sci-fi goodness in a nutshell

“Technology was the same as any weapon: a hunk of finely crafted metal and parts, harmless until the wrong mind got to it.”

We get space wars, a relevant political subplot, spaceships PLUS more spaceships in this book. Hooray!

The thing about sci-fi books is that there’s a huge possibility for them to be too similar with each other. The Ignite the Stars series, in my opinion, stands out within the genre because it mixes sci-fi elements with great action and impeccable social commentary.

• ‎This is a conclusion that will B R E A K you

“There are so many sad moments in our lives,” Ia said . “But also glimmers of good ones. They may be far and few between, but they’ll be there.”

HELLO TEARS MY OLD FRIEND. I’ve grown too attached to this series and I’m absolutely crushed that it’s now over. I still want to have adventures with Ia, ride ships with Knives, and solve problems with Brinn. It’s very difficult to let go of this series, chums. Not to mention that Maura Milan did her absolute best to step on my heart repeatedly in writing this book. Why bookdragons still choose to sleep on this series, I really don’t know why. I’m losing my coherence while writing this review and you’ll understand why once YOU MAKE THE DECISION TO PICK THESE BOOKS UP.

Eclipse the Skies is a series conclusion that will make you scream for more. You just can’t get enough of these books. I wish there were more of them because there are still a lot of things that I want to discover in this world. However, we really can’t have everything so maybe imma just search the deep web for Ignite the Stars fanfics when I have the time. You should probably do the same. Let’s be trash for this series together OH YES.
