I SURVIVED AUGUST 2018: A MONTHLY WRAP-UP

I SURVIVED THE MONTH OF AUGUST! 10000 POINTS TO GRYFFINDOR!!! (I’m exuding lots of Dumbledore vibes here folks)

I think y’all know that I got back to school this month and it’s something I’ve been anxious about since 1901. Now that August is over, I can officially assure you that I SURVIVED THREE WEEKS IN AZKABAN and that I don’t resemble a withered skeleton YET. Let’s rejoice in this good news, okay??

I spent most of my August in school (and stressing about school) but many exciting things still happened to me! Let’s start the wrap-up, shall we?

Reading

I ONLY READ THREE BOOKS THIS MONTH. This is the greatest tragedy since Romeo and Juliet that I’ve made a river with my tears. It makes me sad that I don’t have much time to read now. Worst of all, I often feel guilty when I read because I have too many school activities to do all the time. I NEED A SUPPORT GROUP ASAP.

Anyway, here are the books I read this month:

1. Daughter of the Burning City by Amanda Foody

Rating: ★★★☆

A unique read filled with magic and mystery. Highly recommended to fans of The Night Circus and Caraval. This book didn’t meet my expectations but it has a lot of potential and maybe it will work for you. Still worth the read.

2. City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab

Rating: ★★★★☆

AHH I STILL CAN’T GET OVER THE FACT THAT I GOT AN ARC OF THIS BOOK. It was released last August 28 and YOU SHOULD GET A COPY ASAP. City of Ghosts is a book for all ages. If you like a fast and spooky read, this is the perfect book for you.

3. The Gilded King by Josie Jaffrey

Rating: ★★★.5

An entertaining read featuring vampires and political schemes. If I’m not mistaken, this book is currently on sale on Amazon Kindle for $0.99 and I really think y’all should get a copy!

August has also been the month of book mails for me. I received 11 books that were mainly granted bookishwishes! I don’t have a picture of them all but I’ll maybe make a post of all the books I got from the bookishwish tag one of these days. Again, THANK YOU TO ALL MY BOOK FAIRIES WHO GRANTED MY WISHES. I love you all so much 😭

Blogging

Here’s the thing: I don’t set any blogging goals because I’m afraid that will only bring disappointment. But for some reasons (your support and love mostly), I still achieve milestones and end up grateful instead of disappointed.

For the month of August, I REACHED 300+ FOLLOWERS! This is absolutely crazy great and I just want to thank y’all for always having my back. I also surpassed my page views for last month and got 1.4k views for my smol dragon blog for the month of August (look at those increasing stats)!

I’m so thankful for all your support. I haven’t been posting so frequently lately but you still take the time to read my posts when I do. I’m probably turning into a chessy pile of gratefulness but I seriously can’t stop thanking every single one of you. Thank you for supporting me and this blog. I probably owe you 1000 crates of chocolates now. Just wait until I find Smaug’s lair and get all his gold. I swear I’ll give you all the chocolates you need and treat y’all to a buffet of faerie food.

Just you wait.

Bookstagram

I finally opened a bookstagram on August! I’ve been so insecure for the longest time but I finally conjured the courage to try something new and guess what?? I LOVE BOOKSTAGRAM. It eats a lot of my free time but taking pictures of my smol children (a.k.a. books) soothe me and make me forget about stress.

I currently have 170 followers on bookstagram and that may be small compared to some but that’s more than I ever hoped for! Cait (PaperFury) following me on my first day on bookstagram was enough to make me happy for 100 years. If you want to see my bookish pictures, check out my profile here.

I admit I’m not good at shameless self-promo but I am good at following you back on bookstagram 😉

Twitter

August was a very crazy month for Twitter. Aside from the fact that the Twitter bookish community was shaken by the soap fiasco (100 points to your House if you get the reference), I ALSO GOT 272k IMPRESSIONS FOR THE PAST 28 DAYS. HOW CAN THAT EVEN HAPPEN. I’m glad there are people out there who enjoy my content. Twitter is my favorite social media platform and I’m a bit overwhelmed that I’m now at 2.4k followers there.

Also, the queen V. E. Schwab RETWEETED TWO OF MY TWEETS which resulted to 10 minutes of shrieking and 5 minutes of explaining to my family why I was acting like a pruned chicken.

I will try my best to tweet more bookish content and hope that J. K. Rowling or Rick Riordan will notice me someday. *insert hysterical sobbing here*

Dragons Discuss

AHH IT’S HERE! I’m proud to tell y’all that I have a new blog series in collaboration with my soul sister dragon from the UK— Clo @ bookdragon247! We will be alternately posting on our blogs once every month and shower you with bookdragon fire and awesomeness. You can find the first post in the series on Clo’s blog. You can find everything you need to know about the series there and you can also get to know Clo and I as well.  I hope you will watch out and support this series in the long run because we’ve really worked hard for this.

There you go! August was a difficult month but I’m still grateful for all the achievements I got. Again, thank you for sticking with me despite my bouts of inactivity. THIS DRAGON LOVES Y’ALL.

Shout-out to all those bloggers who juggle school/work with blogging! I’ve experienced that now and I can say that it’s not an easy task. I will probably be busier this September but I will never let go of this blog no matter what. I wouldn’t want you to forget me, would I?

How did your August go? Did you reach your goals? What are some of your plans for September?

And well done for juggling school and your blog and life. I always try to make a list of all the things I need to do but then I get to the end of the piece of paper and feel more stressed out at everything 😂
I hope you have a happy Septemeber 😄

  2. Congrats on starting school and reaching new blog milestones!! 🙂
Starting my next semester (first of my masters) in October myself and in August I finally posted my first blog post – no idea how you do 8 in a month, that one alone was really nerve racking for me^^

    1. OH MY GOOD LUCK ON YOUR NEXT SEMESTER! Congratulations on publishing your first blog post. I honestly don’t know how I managed to write 8 in August but I used to write more. Anyway, it’s not necessary to write a lot of blogposts. As long as you’re enjoying what you’re doing, the quantity of posts hardly even matters 😊

  5. I didn’t fair too well with August either – I only managed four books! But three (and, in my case, four)
is still pretty good. City of Ghosts was one of my four and I absolutely LOVED it. My only problem is that it was too short
