WHERE DID JULY EVEN GO? I seriously think the void ate up 20 days off my July out of spite because I’ve been screaming at it so much. I can’t take this betrayal, void. WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS TO ME??

Because July passed by faster than the speed of light (yeah I don’t know how this makes sense either), I am now officially a big lump of anxiety. August means I need to go back to school again (in less than two weeks) and even after four months of vacation, I’m still not ready to be eaten up whole by the demon also known as 12th Grade. You may not hear of me that often anymore when that happens but I’ll try my best to remind you of my annoying adorable presence every once in a while.

Anyway, now is not the time to talk about the horrors of the universe so I’ll just sum up my July for you.

JULY WAS A VERY SLOPPY READING MONTH I HATE MYSELF. I just read 9 books this month compared to last month’s 16 and May’s 26. The numbers are really getting down so I just want to be buried under my TBR pile, never to be seen again.

I know 9 is a good number for some but it’s not enough for me. I actually hate the number 9 because it’s an odd number and a constant reminder that if I just read more, I would’ve had a double digit count for books read in July. The number 9 makes me feel like I got the last pizza slice off the box only to drop it and (accidentally) feed it to my waiting demon children.

I’m not good at making analogies.

Anyway, I don’t know what happened to me that I read so few books in July. I ABSOLUTELY HAVE NO IDEA.

(Brain: Um you were busy Tweeting, procrastinating, singing to Shawn Mendes, binge watching The Good Doctor, chatting with your fellow bloggers on Discord, planning and failing to schedule blogposts, sleeping, and stressing yourself out)

Shut up brain. I don’t need another betrayal now.

Here are the books I read in July:

(Note: Click the stars to read my goodreads review)

1. The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J. Maas

Rating: ★★★★★

This is the collection of all the Throne of Glass novellas and this was actually my first 5-star-rated book in the series. I picked this book up after reading Heir of Fire despite the fact that this book is actually the prequel. Honestly, I didn’t like Throne of Glass, Crown of Midnight, and Heir of Fire as much as I liked The Assassin’s Blade.

2. Queen of Shadows (Throne of Glass #4) by Sarah J. Maas

Rating: ★★★★★

I didn’t like the first three books in the series that much but Queen of Shadows WAS SO GOOD I STILL CAN’T CONTROL MY SHOUTING WHEN I TALK ABOUT IT. This is undoubtedly my favorite book in the series so far (since the last book isn’t released yet). To know more about why I love this book so much, see my full review here.

3. Daniel Daniels and the World’s Worst Zoo by Robbie Yates

Rating: ★★★★☆

I’ve been a part of this book’s blog tour and I can say that it’s a promising children’s book that even teens (and adults) can enjoy.

4. Empire of Storms (Throne of Glass #5) by Sarah J. Maas

Rating: ★★★★★

This book completely destroyed me. The series has changed so much since the first book and I’m amazed at how Maas weaved all the books together to reach this point in the epic tale.

5. Tower of Dawn (Throne of Glass #6) by Sarah J. Maas

Rating: ★★★.5

I was hesitant to read this book because I’ve always disliked Chaol since book one and this book is largely about him. Nevertheless, I still read this and surprisingly enjoyed it. It wasn’t as good as the previous books and I certainly missed my favorite characters but I can still say this book is worth the read.

6. Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi

Rating: ★★★★★

I finally read this after months of procrastination and I’m very happy I finally read it! THIS BOOK IS SO GOOD YOU SHOULD READ IT ASAP IF YOU HAVEN’T YET.

7. Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik

Rating: ★★★★☆

Another book that lived up to the hype! (for me at least) I had some difficulties in getting used to the author’s writing style but I eventually enjoyed this book.

8. How To Fracture A Fairy Tale by Jane Yolen

Rating: ★★★.5

This is an ARC I got from Netgalley that features a lot of fairytale retellings. I also enjoyed this book and I hope people will watch out for its release on November 5, 2018. Full review to come.

9. Notes on a Nervous Planet by Matt Haig

Rating: ★★★★☆

This is a non-fiction book by Matt Haig that made me think about a lot of things and reconsider my bad habits. I know non-fiction isn’t for everyone but I assure you that you can relate to this book no matter what.

Even though I wasn’t satisfied with my reading this month, I’m still a bit happy because I’m 25 BOOKS AHEAD OF SCHEDULE IN MY GOODREADS READING CHALLENGE. I increased my challenge from 50 to 75 and I really hope I can surpass it. My sense of overachievement is still alive and kicking.

July has been a really good blogging month and I want to thank you all for appreciating my smol blog and reading my posts. YOUR SUPPORT MEANS SO MUCH TO ME, OKAY? I love you all from the blood moon and back.

July was my second month in blogging and I already reached 200 followers! This also happened during the night of the blood moon so now I have proof of its dark magic 😈😉

I also hit almost 1.3k views this month and 500+ visitors which I really didn’t expect but because of you all, I ACHIEVED IT.

Words are not enough to express how thankful I am to all of you. If not for this wonderful community, I would’ve lost all confidence to continue this blog. I’ve only been blogging for two months but you’ve shown me so much kindness and love. My achievements may seem small to some but for me, what I’m accomplishing is enough to make me swoon.

AHH I’M GETTING MUSHY NOW. My July didn’t quite go as well as planned but I’m still thankful for so many things. Anyway, I have an announcement (sort of) to make this month about my blogging plans because I know juggling school with blogging won’t be easy.

Staye tuned on bookdragonism and let’s wait together for the next appearance of the blood moon. HAIL, DRAGONS!

Talk to me! How did your July go? Did you read many books? Do you have some major plans for August?

  1. Hey, Rain! Congrats on the follower milestone you just achieved! And also for the thousand-plus views! *claps enthusiastically* I’m so glad you read so many amazing books, and that you also loved CBB! That’s easily one of the best books I’ve read so far this year. 🙂

Anyway, I just followed you. It’s so nice to finally have another blog to follow.

    I like your boots!

    Love, JM

    1. Thank you so much! I loved CBB so much too. I will also visit your blog in, like, 2 minutes. It’s so nice to meet another Filipino blogger 😊

  3. Congrats on 200 followers – that’s amazing!

I TOTALLY GET YOU ABOUT SCHOOL STRESS. I finished high school in June and I’m still recovering from all the stress. 😂 I hope you have a good school year! 💖

I really need to read the Throne of Glass series. I’M SO BEHIND.

    1. Ahh I used to think I couldn’t reach 50 followers but here we are now. I’m so so grateful!

School really is stressful. AND YOU NEED TO CATCH UP WITH THRONE OF GLASS. You won’t regret it.

  4. Wouldn’t it be nice if summer would go on longer? I have to start teaching Spanish and German in a few weeks, on top of everything I’m doing now.

Hopefully you’ll get a lot read before school starts.

    1. WAAAAH THANK YOU SO MUCH CAIT! I still get that fuzzy feeling whenever you leave a comment here. I don’t think that will ever stop. And yes I’m so flattered that you’ll miss me! I’ll try to keep on blogging even though I have school and of course I’ll still be supporting you anytime and anywhere.
