8 MOST ANTICIPATED BOOK RELEASES FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR (IS MY TBR PILE KILLING ME??)

Yes. MY TBR PILE IS KILLING ME. I am currently reading two books. I have eARCs to review and there are books that have been in my TBR pile for a hundred years and are probably plotting my murder when I’m sleeping. FORGIVE ME MY CHILDREN.

By the way, I already finished my goodreads challenge but I decided to increase my goal from 50 to 75. I know deep inside that I’ve read many books already but I think I haven’t read enough. The spirit of overachievement says hi.

Now, back to the issue at hand. What’s the solution for the constant TBR problem? I say WE SHOULD ADD MORE BOOKS TO THE TBR PILE. Okay maybe not but there are just a lot of shiny new books with cool covers and the “Want to Read” button on goodreads wants to be clicked EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. And now I’m here to increase your TBR pile as well so we can suffer enjoy together!

HERE ARE MY MOST ANTICIPATED RELEASES FOR THE REST OF 2018 (JULY-DECEMBER):

Sad trivia: I’ve requested ARCs for some of these books on Edelweiss and was declined. *flushes tears into the void*

NOTE: I’m including the synopses of these books so that you’ll have more knowledge of what they’re about.

Okay I’ll start now.

1. Kingdom of Ash (Throne of Glass #7) by Sarah J. Maas

img_20180716_192442-31706944576.jpg

Expected Publication: October 23, 2018

The Final installment to the Throne of Glass series.

Captured by the Queen of the Fae, Aelin is trapped inside an iron box in a secret location, with seemingly no hope for escape. As she endures months of torture, her friends scatter to different fates. Without Aelin to protect them, soldier Aedion and shapeshifter Lysandra need to defend their homeland at all costs. Also left to forge their own paths in order to change history are Chaol, the witch Manon, and the golden boy Dorian-while Aelin’s mate, the fae male Rowan, searches the world over for his lost love.

As Aelin gathers the strength to save herself and fight the ultimate battle of her life, all of their destinies hang in the balance. Some ties will bond even tighter together, others will be severed forever, and mysteries will be revealed in this action-packed, heart wrenching series finale.

October 23 is my death day. I swear this book is going to be the death of me. I need this NOW. I know I’m going to be a crying vegetable at the end of this book but I want to know how this series ends and after Tower of Dawn I am now shaking with impatience because I MISS ALL THE CHARACTERS SO MUCH. Cheers to me for composing the longest sentence in dragon existence.

2. Vengeful (The Villains #2) by V. E. Schwab

9780765387523_f67f3-1505806722.jpg

Expected Publication: September 25, 2018

The sequel to VICIOUS, V.E. Schwab’s first adult novel.

Sydney once had Serena—beloved sister, betrayed enemy, powerful ally. But now she is alone, except for her thrice-dead dog, Dol, and then there’s Victor, who thinks Sydney doesn’t know about his most recent act of vengeance.

Victor himself is under the radar these days—being buried and re-animated can strike concern even if one has superhuman powers. But despite his own worries, his anger remains. And Eli Ever still has yet to pay for the evil he has done.

I have become a huge Schwab addict and I certainly want to read this sequel to Vicious. Believe me when I say that this series is one of the best you will ever read so if you haven’t read Vicious yet, PICK IT UP NOW BEFORE I EAT YOUR SOUL.

3. City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab

9781338111033_761ab-125388443.jpg

Expected Publication: August 28, 2018

Cassidy Blake’s parents are The Inspectres, a (somewhat inept) ghost-hunting team. But Cass herself can REALLY see ghosts. In fact, her best friend, Jacob, just happens to be one.

When The Inspectres head to ultra-haunted Edinburgh, Scotland, for their new TV show, Cass—and Jacob—come along. In Scotland, Cass is surrounded by ghosts, not all of them friendly. Then she meets Lara, a girl who can also see the dead. But Lara tells Cassidy that as an In-betweener, their job is to send ghosts permanently beyond the Veil. Cass isn’t sure about her new mission, but she does know the sinister Red Raven haunting the city doesn’t belong in her world. Cassidy’s powers will draw her into an epic fight that stretches through the worlds of the living and the dead, in order to save herself.

Another Schwab book on the list. I am actually excited for all her upcoming books. This is a book about ghosts (which I really love) and look at that book cover! My heart flutters.

4. Muse of Nightmares (Strange the Dreamer #2) by Laini Taylor

9780316341714_3d9ad-1894223269.jpg

Expected Publication: October 2, 2018

In the wake of tragedy, neither Lazlo nor Sarai are who they were before. One a god, the other a ghost, they struggle to grasp the new boundaries of their selves as dark-minded Minya holds them hostage, intent on vengeance against Weep.

Lazlo faces an unthinkable choice—save the woman he loves, or everyone else?—while Sarai feels more helpless than ever. But is she? Sometimes, only the direst need can teach us our own depths, and Sarai, the muse of nightmares, has not yet discovered what she’s capable of.

As humans and godspawn reel in the aftermath of the citadel’s near fall, a new foe shatters their fragile hopes, and the mysteries of the Mesarthim are resurrected: Where did the gods come from, and why? What was done with thousands of children born in the citadel nursery? And most important of all, as forgotten doors are opened and new worlds revealed: Must heroes always slay monsters, or is it possible to save them instead?

Love and hate, revenge and redemption, destruction and salvation all clash in this gorgeous sequel to the New York Timesbestseller, Strange the Dreamer.

Strange the Dreamer is somewhere at the middle of my miserable TBR pile. I haven’t had the chance to read it yet but the bookish community shows so much love for this series that even I, who hasn’t read the first book yet, am excited for this release. You’ve done your work well, hype. Keep it up.

5. Not Even Bones by Rebecca Schaeffer

9781328863546_c679b167181220.jpg

Expected Publication: September 4, 2018

Dexter meets This Savage Song in this dark fantasy about a girl who sells magical body parts on the black market — until she’s betrayed.

Nita doesn’t murder supernatural beings and sell their body parts on the internet—her mother does that. Nita just dissects the bodies after they’ve been “acquired.” But when her mom brings home a live specimen, Nita decides she wants out — dissecting living people is a step too far.

But when she tries to save her mother’s victim, she ends up sold on the black market in his place — because Nita herself is a supernatural being. Now Nita is on the other side of the bars, and there is no line she won’t cross to escape and make sure no one can ever capture her again.

Nita did a good deed, and it cost her everything. Now she’s going to do a lot of bad deeds to get it all back.

Let me just say that this book is everything I need in life. JUST READ THAT SYNOPSIS. Also, the cover SCREAMS blood and murder and I’m just in love, okay? I can’t wait to read this book. I’m sure it’s going to be bloody 😉

6. Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan

9780316561365_2b4b0-609338302.jpg

Expected Publication: November 6, 2018

Each year, eight beautiful girls are chosen as Paper Girls to serve the king. It’s the highest honor they could hope for…and the most cruel.

But this year, there’s a ninth girl. And instead of paper, she’s made of fire.

In this lush fantasy, Lei is a member of the Paper caste, the lowest and most oppressed class in Ikhara. She lives in a remote village with her father, where the decade-old trauma of watching her mother snatched by royal guards still haunts her. Now, the guards are back, and this time it’s Lei they’re after–the girl whose golden eyes have piqued the king’s interest.

Over weeks of training in the opulent but stifling palace, Lei and eight other girls learn the skills and charm that befit being a king’s consort. But Lei isn’t content to watch her fate consume her. Instead, she does the unthinkable–she falls in love. Her forbidden romance becomes enmeshed with an explosive plot that threatens the very foundation of Ikhara, and Lei, still the wide-eyed country girl at heart, must decide just how far she’s willing to go for justice and revenge.

TW: violence and sexual abuse.

Hmm there’s talk of forbidden love and I’m all for it. I have a hunch that this book is going to give me a lot of feels.

7. ‎Rule by Ellen Goodlett

9780316515283_321ee-551532166.jpg

Expected Publication: September 11, 2018

Three girls with three deadly secrets. Only one can wear the crown.

The king is dying, his heir has just been murdered, and rebellion brews in the east. But the kingdom of Kolonya and the outer Reaches has one last option before it descends into leaderless chaos.

Or rather, three unexpected options.

Zofi has spent her entire life trekking through the outer Reaches with her band of Travelers. She would do anything to protect the band, her family. But no one can ever find out how far she’s already gone.

Akeylah was raised in the Eastern Reach, surrounded by whispers of rebellion and abused by her father. Desperate to escape, she makes a decision that threatens the whole kingdom.

Ren grew up in Kolonya, serving as a lady’s maid and scheming her way out of the servants’ chambers. But one such plot could get her hung for treason if anyone ever discovers what she’s done.

When the king summons the girls, they arrive expecting arrest or even execution. Instead they learn the truth: they are his illegitimate daughters, and one must become his new heir. But someone in Kolonya knows their secrets, and that someone will stop at nothing to keep the sisters from their destiny… to rule.

Magic, mystery, and blackmail abound in this sensational and striking fantasy debut.

“Magic, mystery, and blackmail” plus three female protagonists who can be my next favorite characters. What more can I ask for?

8. The Storm Runner by J. C. Cervantes

img_20180717_080209167181220.jpg

Expected Publication: September 18, 2018

Zane has always enjoyed exploring the dormant volcano near his home in New Mexico, even though hiking it is challenging. He’d much rather hang out there with his dog, Rosie, than go to middle school, where kids call him Sir Limps a Lot, McGimpster, or Uno—for his one good leg. What Zane doesn’t know is that the volcano is a gateway to another world and he is at the center of a powerful prophecy. A new girl at school, Brooks, informs him that he’s destined to release an evil god from the ancient Maya relic he is imprisoned in—unless she can find and remove it first. Together they return to the volcano, where all kinds of crazy happens. Brooks turns into a hawk, a demon attacks them in a cave, and Rosie gives her all while trying to protect Zane. When Zane decides to save his dog no matter the cost, he is thrust into an adventure full of surprising discoveries, dangerous secrets, and an all-out war between the gods, one of whom happens to be his father. To survive, Zane will have to become the Storm Runner. But how can he run when he can’t even walk well without a cane?

Feisty heroes, tricky gods, murderous demons, and spirited giants are just some of the pleasures that await in this fresh and funny take on Maya mythology, as rich and delicious as a mug of authentic hot chocolate.

This is a book from Rick Riordan’s imprint and is about Maya mythology. I support this imprint so much because it showcases mythology from different parts of the world and I LIVE AND BREATHE FOR MYTHOLOGY. I can’t wait for this book and for the other books in the Riordan imprint.

    1. I lived under a rock too and it certainly wasn’t pleasant. They just released it last week so it’s okay if you haven’t heard of it yet. So glad storm runner is in your list too! Let us support uncle Rick’s imprint 😊

  1. This was so much fun to read through! Many of these were on my TBR already (most of which I only discovered by going to Goodreads to press the magnificent ‘want to read’ button only to find out that I had done so already) but I did manage to grow my TBR pile with two brand new ones: Rule and The Storm Runner! Mission accomplished! Now I’m ready to get that immortalisation so that I can finish all these

  2. I’m definitely gonna be adding some books from this list to my TBR. Luckily, I’ve come to terms with the fact that as long as people are still writing books, I will never finish my TBR. And I’m 100% okay with that!

    Like

    1. Right! I’m not totally okay with it but it’s great to know a person who is contented with it. I know I’m probably not going to read everything in my TBR but a dragon can only hope 😊

  6. 1-7 on your list are also on my TBR for 2018 releases and I am weeping at the fact I have so little time to read so many amazing books!

Congrats on your challenge! I also upped mine a month or so ago from 50 to 100, and I am at 80 right now (who tf am I???) so it will probably be upped again. I hear you on overachiever.

    1. Yaaas we have the same books on our TBR and we’re both crying because I have so little time to read too. Seriously, 24 hours in a day is not enough.

80 books out of 100 is CRAZY. HOW DO YOU DO THAT?? And you still want to up your goal. Cheers, fellow overachiever!

  7. Ha love the selection of books! I’m kind of ashamed to say that I still haven’t read any Sarah J. Mass, V.E. Schwab, or Laini Taylor…..so I should probably get around to that (especially since one of those series was already on book #7?!?!)

    Like

    1. Aww you’ll have time someday! Maas, Schwab and Taylor are great authors. I was intimidated by Throne of Glass before too. I only read it this year. So if I can do it, I know you can too. Good luck!
